Jason Shepherd is the former General Counsel for the Young Republican National Federation and the Cobb County Republican Party. A 1998 graduate of the University of Georgia, 2010 graduate of Atlanta’s John Marshall Law School, and a 2016 graduate of the University of Oxford, Jason practices law in Atlanta focusing on health care regulation. Before law school, Jason served on staff for then House Speaker Newt Gingrich and later for Congressman John Linder. Jason also served as Senior Aide to Insurance Commissioner John Oxendine and as the Legislative Liaison for the Georgia Department of Community Affairs. During law school, Jason spent more than nine months prosecuting in the Cobb County Solicitor’s Office under the 3rd Year Practice Act, and served as Aide and Counsel to the Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee in the Georgia House of Representatives.
Jason’s service as a grassroots Republican leader spans more than 20 years beginning in 1994 as a campaign volunteer for Charlie Norwood’s Congressional campaign. In 1999 as Southeastern Field Coordinator for the College Republican National Committee, Jason traveled over 12,000 miles through five states recruiting and training more than 400 new conservative student leaders on over forty college campus.

In 2001 at the age of 25, Jason became the youngest person ever to be elected a Vice-Chairman of the Georgia Republican Party. With the support of GRP Chairman Ralph Reed, Jason worked closely with locally elected Republican officials across Georgia’s 159 counties to foster better intra-party communication and candidate recruitment helping, within his two terms, to change Georgia from a state with a strong Democrat majority to one of the most Republican states in the U.S. In 2004 and in 2005 he was recognized as the Young Republican National Federation Man of the Year.

Jason has taken the message of limited government, lower taxes, and the rule of law internationally as a member of the Young Republican National Federation International Youth Committee and Georgia Council for International Visitors. Jason has attended multi-national conferences in Europe and the United States, speaking to representatives of both established and emerging democracies. He has been honored to be an invited speaker to political, civic, and community organizations, as well as students at the University of Georgia, Georgia State University, Kennesaw State University, Breneau College, and both Oxford and Cambridge Universities in England, especially on the topic of political communication and message development. In 2015, Jason was invited by the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office to join 11 other young leaders from across the country to attend an economic and culture mission to Taiwan.
Jason is an active member of the Atlanta Federalist Society, the House of Gordon USA, where he serves on the bylaws committee and as the Secretary/Treasurer of the Georgia Division, and has served on both the Advisory Committee on Legislation, and Communications and Cornerstones of Freedom Committee for the State Bar of Georgia. He is also a former member of the Board of Directors of Republican Leadership Georgia.
He is married to Manuela, a physical education teacher at an Atlanta area charter school who was born in the former East Germany and grew up behind the Iron Curtain. They have a son, Alexander, and a daughter, Natalie. The Shepherds attend Stonebridge Church on the Marietta Square.
