Leadership in Difficult Times

There is no doubt that all Georgians are facing difficult times. With unemployment and foreclosures at their highest point in modern history in our state, state government needs to encourage opportunity to allow the creative and entrepreneurial spirit of our people to come out. The way to do that is to get government out of the way. It was Founding Father and author of the Declaration of Independence Thomas Jefferson who said, "The government that governs best is the one which governs least." Or, in other words, if you work all of Monday and part of Tuesday to help fund the government, you should be free to spend the rest of the week providing for your family, investing in your business, your place of worship, and your favorite charity or community organization. Georgia cannot get out of this economic downturn if government continues to believe that it's the people who serve the government rather than the other way around. We cannot tax and spend our way back to prosperity. As State Representative, Jason Shepherd will work hard to insure that government maintains its roll as a catalyst for opportunity, not a barrier to prosperity. With the right leadership, Georgia will come out of this downturn stronger than it has ever been. All we need is a proven, effective leader like Jason Shepherd to make that happen. 1.
