"I've sent a message to people in politics that there is a line that you better not cross. Untruthful, personal attacks that can't be backed up there's no place for them and you can be held financially liable for it.''
- Mark Taylor, former Democratic Lt. Governor of Georgia
On Monday, September 27, 2010, the Democratic Party of Georgia and my opponent released a desperate smear attack against me digging up an arrest for simple battery that was more than a decade old. What the Democrats and my opponent fail repeatedly to mention is that the charges were dropped and the case dismissed. I have been open and honest about the arrest that was from more than a decade ago when I was in my early 20's, even to the point of discussing it with members of the Kennesaw State College Republicans just a few weeks ago. I did in 2000 and still to this day maintain that there was no validity to the charges. We have focused our campaign on the issues; job creation, lower taxes and common sense transportation solutions. The Democratic Party and the incumbent seem only to want to discuss rumors and innuendo and sling mud. If that was not depraved enough, they have accused my wife as being a mail order bride on their mouthpiece, Blog for Democracy. I don't care what they say about me, but attacking my wife and making false accusations against her is even too low for politics. It is these kinds of personal, sleazy, and baseless attacks that people are sick and tired of and takes the focus away from the real problems our state and nation is facing. With this desperate attack, the Democrat Party has shown that House District 37 is ground zero for the political fight in Georgia. The Democratic Party of Georgia and Rep. Terry Johnson have used the serious issue of violence against women as a cheap political trick which undermines the issue for thousands of men, women and children who truly are victims of domestic violence each year. They should be ashamed of themselves. With your support, I know this is a race we will win.
